VIBE’s Daily Additions to the ‘Pod
1. Talib Kweli (feat. Maino) – “To The Music”
It’s hard to go wrong when you have a 9th Wonder beat. Pair that with introspective lyrics from Talib, and Maino’s street smart bars, and you got yourself a winner.
2. Freddie Gibbs (feat. Kirko Bangz) – “Bout It Bout It”
Kirko’s auto-tuned voice is getting a little played out, but the overall feel of this song works really good. Gibbs has a great ear for good production that matches his rap style, and “Bout It Bout It” proves that.
3. Fred The Godson – “I Go” (Feat. Lil Kim)
Fred Kim pair up rather on this. The beat definitely goes hard, and both rep well for New York rap for sure.
4. Soulja Boy – “Beat It Up”
With this new offering, it seems like Soulja Boy took every explicitly sexual thing he could think of and threw it all on one song. Too bad it sounds cheap and unoriginal, beat included.
5. Mysonne (feat. Pusha T) – “G Shit”
While there’s nothing that particularly stands out on here, overall this isn’t a bad track. Production-wise, there could be a lot more going on then what’s presented.
6. Young Chris – “Going Ham”
This has a party feel going on. While it sounds like a “get-light” song—which went out in 2007—you can’t front like this doesn’t get your head nodding even the slightest bit.
